I recently watched parts of the documentary "The Fourth World War," which chronicles various globe-spanning acts of resistance to neoliberalism and globalization. The film ends with the point that no social progress is made without people putting their lives on the line to stand up to the injustices of power... examples abound throughout the film: Zapatistas, the Battle for Seattle, Tianamen Square, etc.
Well, the Good News is that significant social change DID happen right here in the USA last night and not a drop of blood was spilled. Democracy worked! And the change is immediate. In Barrack Obama we have not just a new President, but a Real Leader who can inspire by his very presence and who will represent the very best of America on the world stage.
Oh, did it feel good to chant "yes we can!" with millions. "U-S-A, U-S-A" stands for ideals and democracy again.
